Has anyone tried the new GALaxy controllers from GAL? I would like some feedback on the reliability of the equipment before I sell it to a customer. Thanks,
Mark

Yes I have had some really good experience with the GALaxy controller from GAL. I was the elevator consultant as well as the project manager of a project involving the modernization of 4 geared elevators, 6 stops. The elevator contractor finished 12 weeks ahead of schedule, yes ahead of schedule. When I inquired as to why they felt they were able to accomplish this they repied "a good team and the ease of installation of the GALaxy controller". Also there was some building power problems and GAL's support was outstanding. I specify the GALaxy in all similar applications.

Our company has been installing the Galaxy controller since it hit the market. At first there were a few reliability problems with some aftermarket relays that GAL was using, since then they have gone to another vendor and that problem has been solved. Here's my observations regarding this equipment...
Easy, straight forward adjustment.
So far, with about 10 units up and running, IT JUST DOESN'T SHUT DOWN!
We're happy, our customers are happy, and we're still ordering more.

We have installed 2 duplexes and so far they have been running Great! Our field techs liked the ease of setup and adjustment. Most of all you can't beat the tech support GAL provides. We have never had good luck with trying new controller manufacturers or new controller types but this was the first time we had instant success.

We have installed two jobs (a duplex and a 4 car group) using the GALaxy controller. The installation and setup were seamless, the manuals and prints were easy to read, and the controller was very user friendly. Ride quality/performance was easily attainable, and troubleshooting was simplified by extensive diagnostic capabilities.

To echo the other posts - tech support was superb...an extremely knowledgeable group - easy to get in touch with the engineers, quick software modifications when necessary, and visits to the site when it was called for.

The team at GAL has done a great all around job with this control system.

I have used the Galaxy controllers on various different applications. Both VVVFAC and SCR two car groups.
My entire experience from ordering the controller to the tune-up process was a pleasure.(and if anyone knows me,I am not easy to please.)
G.A.L provides a quality product at a competitive price.
All adjusting and trouble shooting is done through the ease of the "on board diagnostics".
The Galaxy controller is backed back the G.A.L committment of excellence but best of all it backed by "THEIR WORD".
When installing this product for the first time the only additional thing you will have to provide is a little more time when it comes to the adjusting due to the learning curve, but keep in mind you will have G.A.L by your side or just on the other side of the phone for any tech support or questions you may have.
I hope this information helps you in your decision with choosing this product. If you need any more info. I'll be glad to respond.

I have installed many GALaxy controls. Gearless DC multi-car group, VVVF AC Geared, and Hydros. These controllers are "rock solid" and trouble-free. The adjustment is, by far, the quickest and most straight forward of any manufacturer that I have ever installed. The sales and engineering staff, have been extremely helpful, both in quoting jobs and in technical questions after the sale. GAL is a great company with which to do business. I would highly recommend the GALaxy line of controllers for any application.

Since the first post on this issue, I have done some of my own research on GALaxy. It appears that everything said above is right on. I talked with contractors who used GALaxy for simplex hydros – up to a 4 car group of gearless at 800 fpm. Without exception their installers and adjusters were impressed with the ease and straightforward nature of set up and adjustment. I haven’t seen a set of GALaxy wiring diagrams, but am told they are color coded - which make the field connections close to a no-brainer.

GALaxy controls haven’t been running for a long time – the oldest running job I heard about was only two-plus years old. This being said, it seems like it is a very stable control – most (one exception) are claiming zero shut downs after turn over.

Pricing – summarized comments - On hydros, “somewhat more expensive”. On VVVF Geared traction “ A solid 12 to 15 % below pricing we normally see”. On gearless, “Right in there with the rest”.

Support – GAL seems to be going overboard - if that’s possible. Without exception I heard about a level of support (no charge – no question about who is a fault – easy to reach competent phone access – no hesitation when on-site training is requested), that is unheard of today in our industry. Mark Duckworth (X CEC, X Dover) heads up both the development and support.

Conclusion – Looks like there is a good new alternative out there.

Gallagher Elevator Co. has installed several GALaxy controllers in the last year. We have been very happy with the product. GAL has been responsive to jobsite problems and has made changes quickly where needed. One duplex has been up and running for more than a year and has been virtually trouble free.
